Got Questions

Everything Hills District families ask us

If you don't see what you're looking for, reach out to Gabriela directly — she's always happy to chat.

What does it actually cost? Are there hidden fees?

No hidden fees — ever. Our class fees are published in full on this page, and everything else you need to know — registration, uniforms, concert costs, and our full fee policy — is covered in detail on our What To Expect page.

What if my child is shy or nervous about their first class?

This is one of the most common things parents tell us before a first class — and we're well practiced at it. Shy kids are genuinely welcome at HDF. Our teachers are experienced at gently integrating nervous first-timers at their own pace.

For very young children, parents are welcome to stay and watch the first class if it helps your child settle. For our Ready Set Dance preschool program in particular, we know that some little ones take a class or two to find their feet — and that's completely okay. There's no pressure, no rushing, and no judgment.

Is the content age-appropriate?

Yes — always. Age-appropriate music, costuming, and choreography is a non-negotiable at HDF. We don't follow TikTok trends or put children in adult-style performances. Every class, every costume, and every concert routine is designed with your child's age and development in mind. If you ever have a concern about anything your child is being asked to perform, we want to hear about it immediately.

What age groups and skill levels do you offer classes for?

We offer dance classes for children aged 2.5 years through to young adults (21+) right here in Dural. Beginners are always welcome — no prior experience is required — and our programs are designed to support every dancer's development at the right level.

How do I know what style or program is right for my child?

The best way is to try. We offer obligation-free trial classes so your child can experience a class before you commit to anything. Our team is also happy to recommend classes based on your child's age, personality, and goals — just ask. Generally speaking: Ready Set Dance for ages 2.5–5, Fun stream for ages 5–18 who want recreational classes, and Teams for dancers ready for a competitive pathway.

Can dance classes fit in with other sports and activities?

Yes — and many of our Hills District students do exactly that. Our Fun stream is designed for children who want to take one class per week alongside other activities. Teams involves a greater time commitment, but we work with families to find a schedule that fits. If you're worried about overcommitting, start with one Fun class per week and build from there.

Are the instructors certified and experienced?

Yes. All HDF teachers hold current Working With Children Checks and are fully qualified industry professionals — not senior students. In our Ready Set Dance preschool program, teachers are also accredited through the official Ready Set Dance program, which is endorsed by early learning experts.

What should my child wear to their first class?

Comfortable, fitted clothing they can move in — leggings and a T-shirt are perfect. Bare feet or ballet shoes for their first class. No need to purchase a uniform before enrolling — we'll provide full uniform details once you're in.

Can I watch my child’s class?

To ensure the best learning environment, parents are generally not in the room during regular classes. However we have a CCTV monitor in the waiting area so you can watch your child's progress at any time. The final week of each term is also open for parents to come in and watch — a great way to see how far your child has come.

For very young children or nervous first-timers, parents are welcome to stay and observe the initial class to help their child settle.

What happens if we miss a class?

We understand family life happens. Make-up classes are available where possible — just let us know in advance and we'll help find a suitable time. For Ready Set Dance preschoolers, swapping between available class days is also an option, though we recommend consistency for comfort and routine.

Will my child get the opportunity to perform?

Yes — all HDF students perform in our Annual End-of-Year Concert, held in a professional theatre. Teams stream dancers also compete at eisteddfods and perform at local community events throughout the year.

Do you have your own studio space?

Yes. The Hills Dance Factory operates from our own purpose-built studios in Dural at Unit 19 / 252 New Line Road. Each studio is fitted with air conditioning, professional sprung floors, mirrors, sound systems, and CCTV for parent peace of mind.

What happens after the free trial class?

JIf your child loves it — which they usually do — just let us know and we'll set up enrolment through our online parent portal. No pressure, no awkward sales conversation. If it's not the right fit, that's completely okay too.

Where are you located and which areas do you serve?

We're based in Dural at Unit 19 / 252 New Line Road, serving families from across the Hills District including Castle Hill, Kellyville, Cherrybrook, West Pennant Hills, Pennant Hills, Glenhaven, Rouse Hill, Bella Vista, Kenthurst and Galston.
